The funeral will take place at Saint-Joseph's Church, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, on Saturday, December 16th, at 10:30 a.m with Father Pierre Antoine St Cyr officiating. Our family would like to thank all the members of the medical teams who treated him during his cancer diagnosis over the past year and a half. He was predeceased by his parents Émile and Marie, his brother Maurice Cormier, and many friends, who we hope welcomed him with open arms. Réal also leaves his numerous nieces and nephews, and their families: Geneviève, Jacinthe, Jacques, Maxime, Mélanie, Tara, Chantelle, Adam, Ghislaine, Sylvain, Marie Josée, François, Julien, Rachelle, Jonathan, Amélie, Michael, and Laura. Réal leaves to mourn his two children, Pascale (William) and Louis the mother of his children, Claire as well as his siblings: Pauline (Gilles), Marie Jeannine (Claude), Roger (Mary), Daniel (Brenda), Bernadette (Alfred), Régina, and Denis (Charlene). We also hope that you will hold onto good memories of Réal. We will no longer be able to play a game of crib or listen to loud music in a rocking chair (specifically a wooden one) without thinking of him. Graduate from l’Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec in Montréal, he spent many years working in restaurant kitchens, but also loved to cook for his family. Before he returned to the region to be a fisherman, he had discovered a passion for cooking. A fisherman most of his life, the sea was where he felt most like himself. Born July 21st, 1962, in Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, he was the son of the late Émile and the late Marie (née Poirier) Cormier. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Réal Cormier, age 61, on December 4th, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre in Chéticamp. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mom may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care. A family service will take place at a later date. John Ritter, Lori Ann Gillis, the Palliative Care team, and Continuing Care nurses Jessica and Genevieve, who cared for Bonnie. We, the family, would like to thank the doctors, wonderful nurses, and staff at Inverness Consolidated Hospital and Victoria County Hospital who cared for Mom over the years. Mom loved watching movies, soap operas, and game shows. Mom enjoyed making apple pies and often would make eight or more at a time but only if someone would peel all the apples! She was happiest cooking and baking for her family and friends and spending special times sitting around drinking tea and enjoying her sweets. After retiring, John and Bonnie returned to the Lake, their beloved spot. She worked alongside her husband John at Ainslie Village Campground for 18 years and then at Soldier’s Cove Gas and Variety Store for 13 years, where they made lifelong friends. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter Sienna Rossiter, sisters Georgena and Mildred (in infancy), her brothers Johnnie, Archie, Murdock, Willard and Gary sisters-in-law Shirley, Marg, and Chubby brothers-in-law Colin and Charles. We would like to acknowledge and thank Donna MacLennan and Kathleen Richardson for their compassionate care, who became family to all of us during Mom’s illness. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law Fabian and Danny Brushett and sisters-in-law Harriet Brushett, Theresa Brushett, Cassie Brushett, and Eileen Brushett and her best friends Blanche Lalonde and Winnie Reid also many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her three daughters, Deborah (Sheldon) MacKay, Denise Brushett (Joe Rossiter), Deanna Brushett (Colin May) sister-in-law and best friend Johnena MacLellan brother Wayne MacLellan and sister Anne Bergeron her cherished grandchildren, Matthew MacKay (Jennifer MacLean), Amanda MacKay (Vi Tang), and Brandon MacKay, Clare and Brynn Woods, Cattleya Rossiter and great-grandchildren, Logan and Ellajah Tang, Noah and Norah MacKay. Born in Inverness, she was the loving wife of late John Brushett and daughter of the late Archie MacLellan and Catherine (Smith) MacLellan of Inverness. Veronica “Bonnie” Brushett (MacLellan), 83, of Lake Ainslie, passed away Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, peacefully at home with her family by her side.
